Comments & Suggestions on No.332

By Kim, Ji-hyun 기자2009.09.04 00:00:00

The KNU Times has already published its third issue of 2009. When I started to write the review for No.332, I thought that it would be fairly easy to write comments and suggestions. However, I now feel much responsibility in writing this review, because I realize that many people read the articles in The KNU Times more carefully than I thought. So I read and reviewed No.322 more precisely in order to offer constructive and fruitful comments and suggestions. If my review can help The KNU Times and the readers, I will be extremely happy.

I would like to review each major section. The first section is "Editorial", in which the editor wrote about Gando. In fact, Gando is not as familiar as Dokdo and many people are really interested in Dokdo. So I think this article is really helpful and for KNU students who don`t know much about Gando. And as the editor said, this September 4th is a really important date for Korea, so, the public`s support and interest is needed at this time to get "our Gando". I think the "Editorial" section is the place where the editor can have his/her say. In this edition, the editor wanted to shock KNU students into learning about Gando and I think this purpose was achieved.

The second section is "People". As I mentioned in my review of No.331, this section is very helpful for KNU students in preparing for their future. In No.332, the featured person is Kim En-yi who is the youngest professor in KUN. This article is composed of several interviews with her. The interviews include questions and answers that are really relevant for KNU students. So I think this section can give inspiration to many students. But in the composition aspect, the interview section and the introduction to the professor’s research could have been posted separately to show them more distinctly.

The next part is "Korean Express". The subject is folk remedies and traditional medicine. It introduces some well-known folk remedies and shows how to apply those remedies as appropriate. Koreans know about our folk remedies but to foreign KNU students, this article is really interesting and has dome good practical tips. Apart from the introduction, this article also gives some useful tips to students through a "True or False" activity. Therefore I think the subject and the contents are fresh and fruitful.

"Gourmet in Daegu" is one of my favorite sections in The KNU Times. The reason why I like this section is that it is very informative to students. Even though I have been living in Daegu all my life, I don`t know which places are hot or trendy. So I and my friends usually meet at the same place, like other students. So learning about a good place and going there is really welcome to me. In No.332, the article dealt with the cultural hot place, "THAT". I think this article will make many students visit there, thanks to the interview with the visitor and owner and also the detailed information.

The main section is "Cover Story". I read this part with huge interest It dealt with Daegu`s lost fame and bygone prosperity. These days, many people have similar opinions relating to this problem and are very pessimistic. This article analyzes the problem in depth. It introduces the current reality and tries to find the cause, which it identifies in the conservative characteristic of Daegu citizens and institutions. Finally it offers several suggestions for solving the problem. I think the best point is the interview with the director of the Metropolitan project. Most people really want to listen to such accurate information from the "real" director of the project. I feel this article is a little bit pessimistic about the future. However Daegu has been recently picked as a Medi-city, so I think we can expect a blueprint for the future from this point and I really hope that the blueprint will become reality soon like many other KNU students!

I read "Culture" and "Hot Spot" with my friend. "Culture" is about Doomsday. I read this part with interest. I was shocked and surprised at the information that fortune tellers in the East and the Western have predicted the same period for the end of the earth. After reading this, I and my friend asked each other, "What would you do if Doomsday were to come in 2012?" and we really thought about it seriously. "Hot spot" dealt with Miryang. The travel information was composed in chronological order with full details, so it will really useful to people who plan a Miryang trip. In addition, the pictures make me want to visit there because of the beautiful scenery.

Apart from these sections, The KNU Times includes interesting and various articles written by many KNU students. Through reviewing The KNU Times, I could feel the passion of the editor, reporters and KNU students. I think The KNU Times deserves much support. I have participated in this magazine as a critic and reviewed only twice. However, I feel responsibile, even I though really like it. If I feel like this, then the editor and reporters of The KNU Times must feel even more pressure and responsibility to make a better magazine. So I want to give big hand to them. Also the experience as a critic of The KNU Times is really enjoyable to me and I`m proud of having this opportunity. I hope to participate in this magazine again and I`d like to urge KNU students to take this chance! FInally, I will always cheer The KNU Times up and thank everyone for reading my reviews. Thank you! :)
