Even though there were many restaurants waiting for us, the KNU Times selected a special place, Buja gopchang, where a lot of people were crowded together and delicious smells of gopchang wafted in the air.

The story of Buja gopchang

This restaurant was opened only a year ago by an ordinary woman, who is not just a housewife managing her household but is also good at cooking. She was a little concerned about running her own restaurant, since she had never had any experience in business. After several months, however, all her anxiety vanished as many patrons were coming to her restaurant.

Opening a Pandora’s box of Buja!

One charming point of this restaurant is the Service. When customers do not know how to grill and eat gopchang, a kind lady comes and explains how to enjoy it best. Another attractive thing that captivates lots of patrons is the Taste. It tastes clean and light, and diffuses a savory aroma in every bite. In addition, the secret of this restaurant is Sauce. All restaurants on the Angirang streets serve the same menu including gopchang, makchang (cow’s stomach), and yeomtong (chicken’s heart). Therefore, each of them should develop their own special sauce in order to draw customers. The sauce of ‘Buja gopchang’ is made of toenjang (fermented soybean paste), chopped peanuts and sliced green onions. It tastes a little bit spicy but sweet.

Are you ready to fire up your grill?

The main menu item of this restaurant is ‘gopchang.’ It contains ingredients that we cannot easily experience. Some people are crazy about this, but others are not, due to its smell or texture. Even though you do not particularly like to eat gopchang, try gopchang here! You may change your mind and this challenging new food will be a very unique experience. One plate of Gopchang costs only 10,000 won and it is enough for at least three people to eat, which is not that expensive.

Nevertheless, what happens if you still do not want to eat gopchang after you taste it? Do not worry! There are other options. Makchang is another food served in this restaurant. It has a rather soft texture and is unseasoned, while gopchang is spiced with red pepper paste. It also gives out a less distinctive smell than gopchang, so people who hate the smell of gopchang had better try makchang. Each plate costs 8,000 won and it is cheaper than gopchang.

The other menu item is Yeomtong ggochi. This is grilled heart of chicken on a skewer. When you order this, you will be served with two kinds of sauce, spicy and sweet. Both sauces are fantastic and people can select the sauce according to their preference. It costs only 5,000 won and contains about 10 skewers. I can strongly recommend it!
