The New Year started and people welcomed 2014 with hopeful mind. The word 'new' always pumps my spirit and maybe everyone feels the same way. However, when you recollect last year, don't you regret anything? Didn't you miss doing important things and reaching goals? Everyone has 24 hours each day and 365 days each year. If a tree missed the best time to bear fruit, the fruit of this year will not appear. Therefore, we should decide to-do-things and want-to-do-things as well.

What is the first thing we do for welcoming the 'new' year? Someone may buy new clothes or clean their room. However, the most important thing to do first is making a plan. Many KNU students also have made their goals and schedules for this year. What are your aims for 2014 and how can you achieve your goals?

There are three elements that can make good plans. Before we start making a plan, there is one essential thing that you have to keep in mind. That is ‘A plan does not need to be perfect but to be corrected.’ The first step to make a plan is setting a goal. It sounds very normal, but this is a significant part of planning. Goals that you make do not have to be grandiose. If you planned unreasonably big aims, your disappointment is bigger when you fail. Just start with trivial goals.

Secondly, decide your code of conduct. That means setting rules how you should behave to achieve your aims. For example, if you set a goal to study for mid-term exams, you must set your own rules like what time you will wake up, how to study, whether studying yourself or in a group, or how much you will study in a day. These help you to achieve your aims step by step.

The final element is to check your behaviors and give yourself feedback. If you skip this step, next time when you set a goal, you cannot develop yourself. When you give feedback by yourself, you must check two elements: good thing and bad thing that you did. In good things, you praise and give a present to yourself. To the contrary, you should reform your methods for the bad things like breaking promises to yourself. For example, if you established your behaviors and aims that difficult to perform, this time in feedback, you have to lower your aims. It is important to have feedback because the most valuable is achieving of the goal.

Now you have received information that how can set a plan correctly. Planning is not just drawing your dream faintly. It is the process of making your dreams vivid. Therefore, you should think carefully and put elements which can lead to your goals. There is no one who fulfills his or her own plans. Human is an animal of experiences. Rather do not perform your plans perfectly all at once - do it steadily and gradually. When you attain the small element, you may discover yourself growing.
