Hyangchon Cultural Center is one of the historical spaces in Daegu. It is located in 449, Jungangdaero, Junggu, Daegu (Hyangchondong). During the Japanese occupation, the center and the areas surrounding Daegu Station suffered from exploitation as a result of the urban reorganization. Nevertheless, Hyangchondong was the substantial spot of culture in Daegu, where writers and artists who were armed with cutting remarks exchanged discussion, seeking a new hope in the period of turbulence. The cultural center has created a living memorial of our individual citizens and artists who lived fiercely in the early modern times while attempting to find a new future for our region.
In Hyangchon Cultural Center, visitors can meet and experience the romantic Hyangchondong of the 1950s, which was a spiritual resting area for Daegu artists and the cradle of public culture. In addition, the center provides a place of meeting and connection between times and generations. For example, there are many models which reproduce the village in the 1950s. People can also participate in many fun activities: making their chronological tables, taking pictures and selecting the background of the past Hyangchondong, singing along with past songs and enjoying diverse graphic materials. Therefore, all generations can enjoy the culture together, and carry out their cultural exchanges.
