361. What is Your Recommendation for a Travel Destination?

Mun, Yu-jeong, Lee, Yu-jeang 기자2016.03.02 00:00:00

“The early bird catches the worm”. If you are planning to go on a trip, fix these words in your mind. Most airlines and accommodations offer promotions for travelers making early reservations. Now is the time for upcoming summer travel arrangement. However, do not forget that nothing can be prepared without first choosing a fine destination for a trip. To help your choice, six students in KNU recommend the best places they have visited.

If you are looking for a serene and peaceful travel destination, I want to recommend Lemera, Sud-kivv province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). That is the only place where I can find my own history. It is located at the eastern part of DRC, and the mountains make the landscape of Lemera beautiful. Since it is not crowded, it might be an ideal place for rest and meditation. You can take the time to think about your life and your future. Surprisingly, in DRC, you can see monkeys when you are simply walking on the street. I recommend eating dried mangos because they are very tasty. Buses are the only public transportation in DRC, but luckily you can travel anywhere by bus.

I would like to recommend Laos for a tourist attraction. Generally, young people travel to Laos for leisure activities, which have gained popularity after being broadcast on the TV program, Youth over Flowers. There are a variety of activities, ranging from leisure sports to exploring caves in Laos. I enjoyed swimming and diving in Blue Lagoon, a great spot to relax and cool off. Moreover, it was exciting for me to go kayak tripping down the river. In town, the street is lined with small markets for foods and handicrafts to create a vibrant atmosphere. You can buy traditional foods and items at reasonable prices there.

I cannot choose the best place in the world because I have not traveled the entire world and every travel destination has its own beauty. However, if you want to know about Iranian tourist spots, I can recommend some places depending on the purpose of your travel. Shiraz is one of the cities with the oldest background and you can find the palace where the emperor lived there. Mashhad is a religious city where there are big and truly beautiful mosques with modern Iranian art. For example, it has the biggest mosque in the world which is as big as half of Kyungpook National University (KNU) campus. A hall of one of the mosques is made of glass. If you want to see modern buildings, I recommend Tehran, the capital. You can enjoy sea sports or rest near the beach in Kish since it is a coastal city. You can taste various kinds of kebab in Iran. For souvenirs, there are many delicate handcrafted arts such as Iranian carpets.

Beijing is a good place for people to see long history and culture of China. In particular, I recommend the Forbidden City and the Great Wall in Beijing as mustsee locations. The name of the Forbidden City is derived from history, where people were not allowed to come in and out without permission of the emperor. It has been well preserved, giving a better understanding of China’s own beauty. The Great Wall was built as a barrier against the enemy, starting in the Qin Dynasty. It is so long that it is regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. In addition to these ancient architectures, there is a Sanlitun Bar Street for young people in Beijing, showing modern culture.

Suncheon and Gangneung are worth visiting. The most fascinating aspect is that both of the places are located beside the ocean and they have an uninterrupted view. In Suncheon, I went to Suncheon Bay National Garden. It is as big as an amusement park and takes more than 8 hours to see the whole place. It has various gardens having each nation’s own style and plants such as gardens of USA, France, Korea, China, etc. When you visit Gangneung, you should go to Haslla Art World which has museums such as Marionette Museum, Pinocchio Museum, and Sculpture Park. In Sculpture Park, you can appreciate unique sculpture works located sparsely over rolling hills. You should try Chodang Sundubu, a watery tofu which is a specialty of Gangneung.

I want to recommend tourist attractions in Busan because I want more travelers to come to Busan, my hometown. There are many famous sights such as Gukjesijang, Gamcheon Culture Village, and Haeundae. However, since those sights are too famous, I recommend Taejongdae, Songdo Beach, and Busan Aquarium. You can see the beautiful ocean, Oryukdo, and famous rocks such as Shinsun Rock in Taejongdae. The water in Songdo Beach is cleaner than Haeundae or Gwangalli because not many people visit there. Songdo Beach is a good place to enjoy sea sports because the facilities are well equipped and you can see the ocean through a bridge made of glass, the Skywalk. Busan Aquarium holds various events such as Spongebob exhibition. I also recommend eating Milmyeon in Busan.
